Administrative Assistant

The Administrative Assistant will assist in the management and day to day operations of the Long Island Science Center. We are searching for an energetic individual with excellent communication and organizational skills who is efficient, self-confident, and loves STEM Education to become an integral member of our team. The ability to multi-task, while maintaining complex schedules and managing administrative support, is essential in this position. The ideal candidate for this job is well organized, resourceful, and a good problem solver with a positive outlook.  Completion of tasks and workload in a timely manner is the key to success in this position. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides administrative support to Executive Director

  • Assist with administrative management of program booking

  • Organizes and maintains the database and filing system

  • Oversees inventory and ordering for programs, shop, & operations

  • Assist with marketing efforts

  • Responds to requests for information

  • Assumes Visitor Services duties when needed

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to multitask and be proactive

  • Experience working with a CRM database or other patron relationship management software as well as MS Office Suite

  • 3 years experience as an administrative assistant or equivalent preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred

  • Passion for STEM education

Work Schedule/Hours: Flexible part-time, including weekends

Visitor Services

Visitor Services staff will provide an outstanding patron experience for families visiting our facilities. We are looking for someone who has a passion for STEM education, is excited about our mission, and loves working with children.

Responsibilities:

  • Patron greeting and check-in

  • Process gift shop sales

  • Provide information for general inquiries

  • Assist visitors in the use of our interactive exhibitions

  • Assist with instructor-led and self-guided programs

  • Monitor visitors and mitigate any issues

  • Light clean-up

Qualifications:

  • Cheerful and friendly disposition

  • Ability to multitask and be proactive

  • Must enjoy working with children

  • Passion for STEM

Work Schedule/Hours: Flexible part-time, including weekends

Per Diem Educators

Per diem educators provide our instructor-led courses both onsite here at our location and off-site in schools throughout Suffolk and Nassau County. We are looking for educators who are willing to learn programs and be a part of a team that is working to instill a love of STEM in both children and adults.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a public face of our institution within the school system and with the public

  • Set-up and teach workshops

  • Breakdown and inventory program kits

  • Provide engaging content based on lesson plans

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a classroom situation

  • Ability to manage groups of children up to 50

  • Certified teacher or relevant education experience, with an emphasis on science

  • Cheerful, friendly, outgoing disposition

  • Passion for STEM

Intern — Graphic Design

The Graphic Design Intern will provide assistance in the planning and execution of both print and electronic media for the Center.  We're looking for someone who can take  both creative initiative and direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them seamlessly into images, layouts and other designs. 

Responsibilities:

  • Create visual aspects of marketing materials, website, signage and other media, including infographics

  • Consult with Executive Director and Marketing/Communications intern to create cohesive designs that reflect the Center's culture and goals

Qualifications:

  • Adaptive design eye and skills

  • Proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator & PowerPoint

  • Experience with Squarespace templates

  • Basic understanding of HTML and JavaScript

  • Excellent communication and organization skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced environment

  • Ability to absorb and apply constructive criticism

  • Passion for STEM

Work Schedule/Hours:  Flexible (up to 20/hrs per wk)

Start/end Dates:  Flexible (with academic/work schedule)
