Environmental Science

Earth’s environment faces many threats, from pollution to extinction to climate change. Learn about these challenges and how to meet them for the future of our planet.

We have Environmental Science program options that are appropriate for a range of grades from Pre-K-12th grade. The content and project for each program is tailored to your grade level. All classes can be conducted in both English and Spanish. To find out more or to book a program, click the inquire button below.

Wonders of Water

Fresh water is one Earth’s most precious and important resources. Our planet is covered in water and yet only a very small portion of that water has a salinity level low enough to sustain life. Students will gain important insights into how modern water usage has changed and learn about some of the threats to humans fresh water supplies and what is causing them. Participants will also learn about how fresh water and our usage of it affects landscapes. Students will make a water filtration system to understand more clearly how ground water recycles.

Powering the Future - Alternative Energy

There are endless sources of energy available in our universe and humans have just begun to figure out how to harness a small fraction of them. Students will learn about emerging ways we are harnessing the energy all around us to reduce the emissions impact of powering our civilization. We will experiment with plants to see how these unlikely resource can power an electronic device. Students will build and test an alternative energy machine.

Waste Streams - Human Global Impact

Humans produce a lot of waste. How we choose to handle that waste can greatly impact our ecosystems and environment. Students will learn about what happens to our garbage and some of the current and emerging ways we are addressing our waste and the effects it has on our Earth. From composting to recycling and reducing waste, we will explore solutions people are using to reduce our footprint. Students will hand recycle paper.

Climate Change

Scientists have been studying the effect humans are having on the temperature of our plant for decades. Students will learn what climate change is, what it means for our planet, and creative new ways people are developing to address the issues we face. Participants will also learn about how our oceans affect our climate systems. Students will perform an experiment that will help them visualize how climate change affects our oceans.
